For a few weeks now, I’ve been writing about creativity — tips, tricks, and stories about to become more creative. In other words, I’ve sharing with you how I spark my creativity, but never what I actually create.

That’s going to change.

I was recently having a conversation with someone who asked a question that jarred my view of my writing process. He said, “You have been writing a lot, so that means you are reading a lot, right?” — insinuating that my talent lies in simply restating whatever content I have recently been consuming.

I smiled at him, and said, “It means I am living a lot.” 

And living I have been.

On my recent trip to San Francisco and Portland, my mind expanded a few notches, as did my heart. If there is one lesson I learned from my trip it is this:

Give the world your true self.

On the plane ride home (and it was a long one), I started doing just that — by writing a new book. It’s an eBook to help writers — Find Your Voice: The Beginner’s Guide to Writing Like You Are Meant To.

I’m not sure when or where I got the idea to start writing this eBook, but it might still have been in the Portland airport. Once I started writing, I couldn’t stop. I wrote through each plane ride and layover. I wrote until I could not write any more. When I got home, I polished it and added some interviews from interesting people. I even recorded my first audio interview! It included many giggles and an amazing conversation.

Writing this book felt amazing — and it felt completely natural and freeing. I wrote what flowed out, capturing my thoughts as quickly as I could. It was extraordinary.

The point of this eBook is to help other writers feel that same way about their own work. I want to help other writers feel extraordinary, too.
