Ever have one of those life-altering conversations that just lifts you up and fills your batteries to the hilt? I had one of those yesterday.

Who you are + your peers = who you will become.

Yesterday, I met up with a friend — well, he calls me a “peer”. A person that has opened my mind to many things in life, in both my personal and professional careers. Well, the idea is to mix them up into one huge, awesome life, so he’s helped do that, too.

My biggest concern is that more people are not seeking out these kind of “peers” for themselves. Finding inspirational individuals doesn’t really have anything to do with your industry, either.

I like online marketing and technology, but this “peer” is a life coach — no clear correlation but still an amazing amount of badassery.

It’s all a beautiful process. It’s so much like surfing.

There’s a wonderful thing in meeting inspiring peers. A part of these chance meetings and great conversations means that we inherently want to rinse and repeat, making more connections and having even more conversations over time.

When I finished writing my book, the first thing I wanted to do was write another.

When I finish polishing an idea for a project, the first thing I want to do is starting working on another.

When I wrap up a design project, I’m already itching to start another.

When I leave an inspiring meeting, I instinctively start looking forward to another.

Just like surfing, we seek out the badassery, we prepare, we execute it, we wrap up — and then we swim back in to find the next wave.

surfing is my Dojo… so much to learn from the ocean and trying to get a fix from it.  And im always surfing, even when in the city and there are 5 days between one surf session and the next… Im still surfing, waiting for the next wave. Just like the conversation…you get a dose of inspiration but you always have to go back at some point… catch another one.

I like where you are taking that analogy. Lately, I’ve been thinking about the “free time” we all take that is not as productive as others might like us to be. Traditional work versus refueling work. And this surfing analogy is a good one to explain that concept, too. When I invest time in bettering myself and my attitude/mind/behavior, I am simply waiting to catch the next wave of productivity — and I will be even more prepared for it when I do!
